BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay still missing as co-star replaces him alongside Sally

BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent was joined on the famous red sofa by co-star Ben Thompson again this week.

Sally's fairly new co-star Jon Kay who became a permanent fixture after replacing Dan Walker on the popular morning programme was missing in action on Monday 8 August.

Jon was hired to present the programme alongside Sally from Monday to Wednesday with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt taking over for the remaining days in the weekday schedule.

Just weeks ago, the star also needed to pull the plug on his first official debut as Strictly star Dan's replacement.

Unfortunately on what was supposed to be a momentous day for Jon, ended up with the new host suffering from Covid and having to let Sally down.

Updating fans on Twitter on the situation, he followers how "gutted" he had been to miss his first day.

Sharing a snap of his positive lateral flow test, he included the caption: "Aaaagh! Finally got me.

"Gutted not to be able to start the new job officially @BBCBreakfast on Monday."

Suggesting new practices, Jon floated the idea of hosting the show from his own home, adding: ."Guess working from home isn’t really an option @BBCFrediani?"

This time though, Jon's absence seems to have slipped under the radar with neither Sally nor Ben addressing why he has not been present – although it is holiday season which could be the reason why.

Jon who is an active member on Twitter has also not updated his feed in some days, with his sudden disappearance still being understood as a mystery to many.

While Jon's permanent role is new, he has actually worked for the BBC for quite some time, often stepping in to cover Dan when he was out of office.

Discussing the new job offer at the time, Jon told fans online: "I’m over the moon to become the new regular presenter of BBC Breakfast and I’m looking forward to bringing our brilliant viewers the very latest news each morning alongside my good friend Sally and the rest of the team.

"Sitting on the famous red sofa is a real privilege while covering the stories and issues that matter to our audience – home and abroad."
