Anton Du Beke praises Simon Cowell for snapping up Bruno Tonioli
Appearing on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Anton Du Beke, 56, paid tribute to his former Strictly Come Dancing co-star Bruno Tonioli, 67. Professional ballroom dancer Anton took over from Bruno on the BBC judging panel in series 19. It was announced last year Bruno would be back on UK reality TV, replacing David Walliams in the current series of Britain’s Got Talent. Anton praised Simon Cowell for “snapping up” Bruno as he paid tribute to the “brilliant” dancer.
Italian choreographer Bruno was announced as the new judge on Britain’s Got Talent following David Walliams’ exit from the panel.
He made his debut on Saturday night, leaving fellow judges and audiences in stitches with his blunders.
Speaking to Anton, GMB host Susanna Reid stated: “Of course, you took over from him [Bruno] he is now on a different show.”
“Yes!” Anton enthused as Susanna explained: “Britain’s Got Talent! And he broke all the rules.”
“Yes of course, and rightly so,” Anton remarked as ITV host Susanna probed: “What do you think of it?”
“I think it was a genius appointment. If I was Simon Cowell, I’d have done exactly the same thing,” he answered.
Paying tribute to his former co-star, the dancer continued: “I’d have snapped him up in a heartbeat.
“Because he’s so brilliant and he brings such wonderful energy and vivacity and emotion.”
Reflecting on Saturday’s show, he added: “And they all got emotional about the young lad the other night didn’t they, who was magnificent?
“And I think they gave him the golden buzzer, didn’t they?”
“Simon gave him the golden buzzer yeah. He’s going to be on this show before we go off air,” Susanna clarified.
Bruno and the other judges were left in tears over the performance of 13-year-old opera singer, Malakai Bayoh.

Bruno caused quite a stir in his first Britain’s Got Talent episode, with his chaotic antics entertaining the others judges.
The animated judge became a bit too excited during a performance by a choir, Ghetto Kids.
Hoping to secure the act to get straight through to the finals, Bruno took the opportunity to hit the golden buzzer, but he forgot to wait until the performance was over.
Simon later explained to him they usually wait until the act has finished before scooping them up with the special buzzer.
Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
