Adult Material's Hayley Squires reveals heart-breaking hidden meaning behind porn star's eye patch

ADULT Material's actress Hayley Squires has revealed the touching hidden meaning behind her porn star character's black eye patch.

The Channel 4 drama star plays mum of three Jolene Dollar who moonlights in the adult entertainment business.

Actress Hayley Squires, 32, took on the risque role as one of the UK's top porn actors which sees her embroiled in numerous bad parenting incidents and her life being up-ended following an incident at work.

Despite shedding light on the sometimes dark industry, the London-born star told TV Mag of a major touching moment relating to Jolene's wardrobe.

Her character is forced to wear a big black eye patch due to her worries about passing STI chlamydia onto her kids.

Hayley termed the plot line as "pure genius" and said: "It was really
interesting talking to Lucy about it, we talked about it when I came in for one of the first auditions and I was really nervous about the idea that she gives her daughter chlamydia through these eyelashes and through what she does for a living.

"Lucy talked really brilliantly about the idea of infecting and Jolene’s world beginning to kind of seep into her family life.

"I think the eyepatch and the chlamydia eye and both myself and Alex’s character is a metaphor for the damage that Jolene didn’t realise that she was doing, or that she ignored that she was doing or she didn’t really kind of see it in that way.

"She never saw it as damage but knew that there was something not quite right, not necessarily what she does for a living but the effects on her and her mental health and how it kind of infiltrated her family home and her children, particularly her eldest child, so that was kind of the metaphor for it.

"It’s just pure genius really."

Yet the practicalities may have proved a little different for the Call The Midwife star.

Talking about the outfit's logistics, she added to TV Mag: "It was bloody hard to act with it on to be honest, with that wig and those shoes."

Hayley also opened up on seeking the support of an intimacy coordinator who came in and "choreographed" the porn sex scenes.

The Tv star added of their role: "She kind of took the stress and the worry away, so what it meant was, you weren’t just watching two actors perform a sex scene but we were able to go ‘how do we perform this sex scene so that it’s a throughline for the rest of the story.’

"So that everything that is happening mentally can go through those moves.

"You can’t make a series about porn if you’re scared of sex."

The show was delayed coming to TV after previously being scheduled to air in spring.

The Sun exclusively revealed it had to be put back until a time where it could secure a 10pm time slot because of its racy content.

A TV insider said: “Channel 4 are incredibly proud of this brave drama and see it as one of the jewels in the crown of its TV shows in 2020. So they want to give it the best chance possible of developing an audience.

“That’s very difficult at 10pm, when people are preoccupied with getting the latest on that day’s events.

“It’s hoped that by waiting until the autumn, there’s a chance that the crisis will have calmed down and people’s viewing habits will return to normal.”
