Aadi takes drastic action in Corrie as Amy confides Aaron raped her

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) took a massive step in Monday (April 24)’s episode of Coronation Street when she went to Nina (Mollie Gallagher)’s birthday party.

Her parents Steve (Simon Gregson) and Tracy (Kate Ford) knew how much courage it took for their daughter to get dressed up for a night out, as she’s been struggling ever since she was raped by Aaron Sandford (James Craven), who had sex with her when she was too drunk to consent.

The party was a surprise for Nina but it almost didn’t happen as Asha (Tanisha Gorey) discovered she’d messed up the booking and the venue they were expecting to use wasn’t available. It was Aaron who came to the rescue when he told Asha he still had the keys to the builders’ yard flat and offered it as a venue for the party.

As they decorated the flat, Summer (Harriet Bibby) asked Amy if she was alright being there – because that was the place the rape happened. What was worse, Aadi had invited Aaron to the party. Amy avoided Summer’s question, but was clearly feeling very apprehensive about the whole thing.

As the party got going and the guests arrived, Amy was simmering with loathing as she watched Aaron flirting with some girls. He tried to talk to her, but as she brushed him off he touched her shoulder – and Amy couldn’t suppress her feeling of horror and revulsion any longer and lashed out at him with her fists.

‘I know what you are and you know what you are,’ she told him.

Summer led her friend outside, and Amy broke down in tears. She told Summer and Aadi (Adam Hussain) that Aaron raped her when she was drunk and she’d tried to blot it out but couldn’t.

‘I can’t  look at him without remembering,’ she said. Although she previously changed her story about the rape and said it didn’t happen, both Summer and Aadi knew that now she was telling the truth.

Amy went home, and when Steve and Tracy returned from the Rovers they were delighted and relieved when she said the evening had gone well.

Earlier they’d been talking about their worries for their daughter. ‘What if the old Amy’s gone?’ Steve heartbreakingly said, while Tracy reassured him that ‘she’ll be back.’ Seeing her apparently enjoying her social life again came as a massive relief, although viewers could see how much it cost Amy to put on a brave front.

Meanwhile Aadi and Aaron were tidying the flat after the party had finished and Aadi said that he knew the truth about what had happened between Aaron and Amy.

Aaron denied everything saying ‘I am 100% innocent,’ and that Amy had wanted sex as much as he did. He pointed out that being questioned by the police about a sex offence would leave a mark on his record and would stop him getting jobs in schools or hospitals and potentially ruin his future.

‘You tell me, who’s the victim here?’ he asked.

While it looked like Aadi might have been a bit swayed by this argument, this wasn’t the case. After Aaron had carried on drinking and passed out, Aadi took a permanent marker pen and wrote the word GUILTY in bold black letters across Aaron’s forehead.

Maybe when Aaron wakes up and realises that something bad happened to him while he was unconscious he might start to have a tiny inkling about what he put Amy through – and in the meantime he’s been branded with a badge of shame and the knowledge that his friends are very much on Amy’s side.
