A Place In The Sun was back but with a spin-off as Laura Hamilton searched for a property in the UK, while Jasmine Harman was over in France, hoping to charm the potential buyers – Rod and Margaret – with a beautiful chateau. After 35 years in their London terrace, the couple were hoping to purchase two properties which would enable them to split their time between the two countries. But, Laura’s potential property was suddenly taken off the market, while Jasmine claimed victory with a successful offer.

The first house Laura showed them in Weymouth was a three-bed new build on a small cul-de-sac, which was priced at £325,000, offering a wrap-around garden and friendly neighbours.

But Rod and Margaret were not impressed by the size of the rooms and outside space: “I don’t think our family would fit in here. It’s a bit too small.”

The presenter quickly moved on and showed them a four-bed detached property for £320,000, which offered a much bigger garden at the front.

While the house was “far more promising” inside, Margaret noted the absence of a bath and how the back garden was a little “compact”.

With property number two on the back burner, Laura was sure she had the perfect house to conclude their search.

But Jasmine gave her co-star a warning: “Don’t get too confident there Laura, I have three french properties full of charm which I know will win them over!”

The last house was a three-bed bungalow at the top of their budget, with a large garden at the front and rear, as well as a garage.

“A bungalow?” Margaret asked. “I’m old but I’m not that old! I can still do stairs!”

“It is a bungalow,” Laura reiterated and then remarked: “You can leave the stairs for France.”

When asked to summarise their thoughts, Rod explained: “It’s a bit small and the bathroom is dated, so it would need some work.

“The fourth bedroom is too small, so to have an additional room we would have to convert the loft and with it being the top of our budget already, it would cost too much.”

“Nothing is going to be perfect,” Laura argued. “You have to make a compromise.”

The couple then headed across the sea to join Jasmine and search for a potential holiday home in Dordogne.

Their search with Jasmine began with a four-bed house in Verteillac and while it was a “good lie” the couple were split; Rod loved the house but Margaret was not convinced despite its wonderful location.

The second house they viewed was further in land and was “full of character”.

With plenty of outdoor space for a pool, it would set the couple back £30,000 to make the addition.

Nevertheless, Jasmine pulled out all the stops and found their holiday home of their dreams with the final choice.

A three-bed and three-bath townhouse in Saint-Aulaye for £123,000, which had a private pool in the back garden.

“Sign the cheque now!” Rod exclaimed when he saw the outside space.

Margaret added: “Laura is good, but not as good as you!”

Following an evening of deliberating, Jasmine’s final property was a success and an offer was made and accepted.
