Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating history and why he doesn’t date women over 25

Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly split from his girlfriend of five years, Camila Morronne.

The couple's breakup comes just months after the model celebrated her 25th birthday, sending fans into a frenzy over the theory that the actor won't date women over the age of 25.

The Titanic star is notorious for dating younger women and his slew of relationships with models have regularly hit headlines.

But in 2019 a chart posted to Reddit quickly went viral after it appeared to show that all of Leo's girlfriends in the past 20 years had been under the age of 26, causing fans to joke that the actor would end his relationship with Morrone after she turned 25 in June.

Now that the pair have apparently broken up, it's quickly gone viral again as Twitter users mock the actor over the predicted split.

As he continues his patterns of not dating women over the age of 25, here's a look back at Leonardo's dating history.

Why does Leonardo DiCaprio only date younger women?

Despite having a busy dating life, Leonardo DiCaprio rarely talks about his love life, and his girlfriends have kept relatively quiet about their time with the actor too.

However, Leo's recent ex Camila did address the 23-year age gap between the pair, telling the Los Angeles Times: "There’s so many relationships in Hollywood — and in the history of the world — where people have large age gaps. I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.”

However, experts think that there might be a more psychological reason behind why Leo seemingly doesn't date women over the age of 25, and it could be to do with his mother.

Psychologist Toby Ingham said that DiCaprio is likely struck by the young models' beauty at first, but ultimately craves something more.

He told The Sun: “In the short term their beauty is probably is all that you need or all that you think you need to think about. But in the longer term it’s probably the case the beauty alone is not enough to sustain a relationship."

He added: “I imagine his mother may have been very supportive and he has a very good relationship with her, and she may be one of the very few women he can turn to and be honest in a world so saturated with celebrity."

Leo is very fond of his mum and has even previously said: "My mother is the centre of my life. To have a woman like that in your life, who is strong, who'll be honest with you about who you are… that's something I treasure. And it's something I look for in a woman."

Gisele Bündchen

Leonardo began dating Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen in 1999 when he was 25 and she was just 18 years old.

They dated on and off for six years before splitting for good in 2005.

Looking back on their romance and split for an interview with Porter Magazine, Gisele later revealed: "No longer numbing myself with smoking, drinking and too much work, I was becoming more and more aware of things that I’d chosen not to look at.

"Was I alone in wanting to do some serious soul-searching while he stayed the same? In the end, unfortunately, the answer was yes."

Bar Refaeli

After splitting from Gisele, Leo moved on to Sports Illustrated model Bar Refaeli, who was 20 years old when they began dating.

The pair had a shared passion for activism and had an on-and-off relationship before splitting in 2011, when Bar was 25 years old and Leo was 36.

It was reported that their breakup came as neither of them were ready to settle down. A source told the New York Post: "It was amicable, they're still friends and they are still talking. They just grew apart and went their separate ways.

"Neither are ready to settle down, and both have busy careers that have been taking them in different directions."

Blake Lively

It isn't just models that Leo has dated; in 2011 he also had a brief fling with actress Blake Lively, who is now married to Ryan Reynolds.

Blake was 23 when she met 36-year-old Leo. The pair hit it off and enjoyed lavish dates in Venice, New York City and Los Angeles.

But their romance was short-lived, fizzling out after just five months.

Erin Heatherton

It wasn't long before DiCaprio was back to dating models when in 2012 he started seeing Victoria's Secret Angel Erin Heatherton.

Heatherton was 22 when she dated Leo and the couple were together for just 10 months before splitting due to their busy schedules.

It seems that the breakup was amicable as the model went on to tell the Daily Mail Australia: "He's a wonderful person and he's a friend of mine, I wish him all the best."

Toni Garrn

The next year, Leo started dating German model Toni Garrn, who was just 20 years old at the time.

But she split from the actor after nearly 18 months of dating in 2014 after reports that Leo had been spotted clubbing with 20 women in Miami.

However, the pair had a brief reconciliation in 2017, when Toni was 25, after they were photographed leaving a New York nightclub at 5am together.

Kelly Rohrbach

In 2015 Leo dated star of the Baywatch reboot Kelly Rohrbach, who was 25 when their romance started.

But they split before the year came to an end after just a few months of dating.

An insider told US Weekly at the time: “They’ve been broken up for over a month. It was mutual. They both have intense work schedules and a lot going on in their lives right now.

"They both needed to take a break because of that. They are still friends and talking but it’s over.”

Nina Agdal

Leonardo dated Danish Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Nina Agdal for nearly a year before they went their separate ways.

After they split a source told E! News: "They remain in touch and remain friends, it's an amicable split, and they're moving forward."

The pair had started dating in 2016 but like some of his other ex-girlfriends they split in May 2017, just months after Agdal had turned 25.

Camila Morronne

Leonardo's relationship with model Camila Morrone is one of the longest-running romances he's had in quite some time.

The actor reportedly first crossed paths with Morrone when she was just 12 years old, when her former step father Al Pacino introduced her to Leo, who was 35 years old at the time.

In 2017 they reunited at the Cannes Film Festival and 19-year-old Camila began dating 43-year-old Leo.

Their relationship had been going so well that in December 2020 it was reported that the pair had taken the next step and were living together.

However, in June Camila turned 25, leading to an onslaught of jokes that the pair's relationship didn't have long left if DiCaprio was to continue following his pattern of dating.
