All the way back in 1988, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon began their recording sessions for what would become The Miracle album. Of course, not all of the 30 new songs made it onto the record the following year, but have been sitting in the Queen vault for over three decades. That was until last week when the band released the previously long-lost single Face It Alone, featuring the late singer’s vocals on a new Queen track for the first time in eight years.

Today, Queen released a brand new official music video to accompany Face It Alone, constructed by the band’s content creator Simon Lupton, who “captures all the song’s poignancy and defiance in a dramatic video that touches on themes of solitude, bravery and the redemptive power of friendship”

He said of the endeavour: “The intention was to create, despite how the lyrics might be interpreted, an upbeat video that celebrated the fact that the period during which this song was recorded was one of the most prolific and cohesive in the band’s history. The meaning of the song has been interpreted that when something catastrophic occurs in your life, your instinct is to surround yourself with what is dearest and most important to you. Immersing himself in his work, and surrounding himself with his bandmates, gave Freddie that control. Of course, in the end you have to face it alone – but the people around you can help how you face it.”

The stunning Face It Alone video features statues of the band and images and footage from The Miracle era, including from the Scandal music video.

Brian posted a clip on Instagram and said: “Glad you lovely parallaxers are enjoying those little hidden gems. And, dear casually visiting IG folks, if you haven’t visited QOL to see the new video – hit my SLINK right now ! Enjoy ! And tell me how it grabs you —- OK?”

On the uncovered track’s release last week, the 75-year-old enthused: “I’m happy that our team were able to find this track.  After all these years, it’s great to hear all four of us … yes, Deacy is there too … working in the studio on a great song idea which never quite got completed … until now!”

The other five previously unheard tracks from the sessions like Dog With A Bone, I Guess We’re Falling Out and You Know You Belong To Me, will feature on a special hour-plus disc on the new box set The Miracle Collector’s Edition.

Brian said of the unused music: “We had all these bits and pieces of tracks, and some of them were half-finished, some of them were just an idea, and some of them were nearly finished, and it sort of happened on its own really. There are some tracks which you always want to get out and work on, and so they get finished, and there are some tracks which you think, ‘Oh that’s great, but I don’t really know what to do with it at this moment’, so they naturally get left by the wayside.”
