David Arquette and Courteney Cox were once of one of the most talked-about couples in Hollywood.
From the late 1990s and well into the 2000s, the couple dominated the headlines across the globe.
The pair met on the set of horror blockbuster Scream back in 1996 where they played love interests.
They dated for two years before he proposed in 1998.
Courteney gave birth to their only child, a daughter named Coco, five years after tying the knot.
In October 2011, the pair announced their split with a joint statement, which read, "We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time.
"The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage. We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply."
As David turns 50 years old on September 8, Daily Star has taken a look back into his breakdown of his marriage to the Friends icon.
Courteney described her and ex David as "complete opposites" following their split.
In 2016, she became the latest celebrity to brave the outdoors on Running Wild with Bear Gryll and in between battling the elements and eating maggot-filled sheep scrotums, the actress somehow found the energy to discuss her failed marriage and how her connection to David gradually changed over the years.
Courteney revealed to the reality TV adventurer that her split "wasn't a dramatic ending."
She explained: "We found ourselves living separate lives — just coexisting and being great friends, but not having the intimacy that is so important in a relationship.
"We're just really different, too. I'm the polar opposite of him. And that can be great for a lot of things, but I need this kind of real, one-on-one connection."
Cougar Town star Courteney has previously revealed one of the problems in their marriage was that David is sex mad.
The actress seemed to also have her estranged husband's love of over-sharing and in a joint interview with her spouse she revealed that David is obsessed with lovemaking.
Referring to the actor’s admission that he hit on her during their vacation to Disney World with their daughter Coco, she said: “It was early in the morning.
"This is one of our problems in our relationship. Whenever I would need consoling from David, he could not literally put his arm around me for one second without completely getting a boner."

Courtney added that David is so sex-obsessed he became aroused even when he was comforting her about her dying father.
She previously told radio host Howard Stern, "It was like 'Oh I'm so sorry your dad's dying. can we f**k? 'That's the truth!"
Referring to Courteney’s father Richard Cox’s death in 2001, David interjected: “That time I was good.”
The actress replied: “OK, maybe that one time. We’re going through a hard time.”
"Free to see other people"
David dished the details on how he and Courteney were getting less and less intimate as time went on before they had called off their marriage.
In a previous interview, he said: "We have not had sex…it's been like four months or so. She (Cox) doesn't feel like bonding in that way."
He added: "She (Cox) knows she's not f***ing me and she's like, 'Listen I want you to be able to do whatever you have to do.' Essentially I'm free to see people."
Cried after having sex with another woman
American star David has previously revealed that he broke down as he struggled to forget about the intimacy he shared with ex-wife Courteney following their split.
He told radio host Howard Stern during an interview in 2011 that it was a "new thing".
"After the first girl I slept with… a few days later… I was, like, crying…" David explained.
"It was the end of all the intimacy I shared with my wife. It was like a new thing. It was like… putting that away."
Since their divorce being finalised in 2013, David and Courteney have remained amicable for their teenage daughter Coco.
The Friends alum, 57, shared a video to Instagram on Wednesday of her daughter Coco entering the final year of her high school career and in classic Cox fashion.
The milestone moment came with a cheeky montage video of the 17-year-old teen preparing to embark on her journey into senioritis.
"It's the first day of the last year of Coco going to school," Cox raved in the social media video set to I’m So Excited by The Pointer Sisters. "She's a senior. Big day."
In a behind-the-scenes video jump, Courteney can be seen brewing coffee and tending to the family dogs, Harley and Hopper, just before she hits the home intercom to summon her daughter down, asking if Coco was ready to head to school,
"No," she replied. "OK, see you in the car," Cox shoots back.
David has since found love with Entertainment Tonight correspondent Christina McLarty.
The pair are married and have since welcomed two sons together.
Meanwhile, Courteney began dating Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid shortly after her divorce from Arquette was finalsed.
Things appeared to turn sour for the pair in 2014 when their engagement was mysteriously called off, however, several years later, they are very much still an item,
Courteney has even admitted she'd like another child with Johnny.
In an interview with New Beauty in 2017, She said: "I would love to have a baby now. I mean, I could carry someone else's egg.
"I may be one of the older people doing it, but I would love to, with Johnny that is I would. I know it's crazy, but I would."
