Some of us are just mavericks.
Tom Cruise returns to his iconic role as pilot Captain Peter "Maverick" Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the hit 1986 film Top Gun.
The new film is set 34 years after the previous film and sees pits legendary Captain Peter "Maverick" Mitchell as the new flight instructor of Top Gun, in which he guides Bradley, Goose's son, who seeks to become an aviator similar to his own father.
Bradley is played by acclaimed Whiplash star Miles Teller , while Val Kilmer returns as Commander Thomas "Iceman" Kazansk.
Also look out for turns from Mad Men star Jon Hamm , Jennifer Connelly , and Glen Powell.
The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski who previously helmed sci-fi sequel Tron: Legacy.
However, the exciting new footage does carry some similarities to recent trailers for the sequel trilogy of Star Wars films.
In fact, the trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker look rather similar.
Aircrafts flying low across the sand definitely gave us vibes from Rey's confrontation in The Rise of Skywalker.
Meanwhile, seeing Maverick in the cockpit so soon afterward also left us having flashbacks to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) in the cockpit in The Force Awakens.
The Top Gun trailer also included such intense close-ups of hands on the controls of the aircraft that we had major Kylo Ren vibes too.
One shot definitely gave us chills, however, and made us think of the great shot from the trailer for The Force Awakens from when Finn (John Boyega) crash-landed on the surface of Jakku.
Whether these similarities were intentional or not, we are just so excited to see Tom Cruise back as Maverick on the big screen!
Top Gun: Maverick is released in UK cinemas on June 26, 2020.
