Suicide Squad director David Ayer has addressed the film’s bizarre Easter egg – the one featuring baby clothes.
In one of the Joker’s scenes, Jared Leto’s character is seen lying on the floor, surrounded by weapons – and the aforementioned baby clothes.
In response to a fan’s question regarding the infant onesies, Ayer explains that they are connected to another sequence in the film, where Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) imagines the normal life that she could have with the Joker.
“Someone should ask Ayer why he included baby clothes in this scene. I would but I don’t think I can get a reply,” the fan tweeted. “Lol.”
“All good! Those are the same onesies the babies were wearing in Harley’s fantasy vision,” Ayer replied.
Ayer recently revealed that his original cut was “very different” to what we ended up seeing. It comes after he admitted that he would do things differently if he was given the chance to make Suicide Squad again.
“I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. I have to take the good and bad and learn from it,” he explained, adding there isn’t a “secret edit” of the movie with added Joker scenes.
Suicide Squad 2 is currently in the works and the co-writer Todd Stashwick recently offered an update on the sequel, saying that they had a completed draft he was “really proud” of.
