Robert Pattinson Argues That Batman Isn’t A Superhero

When you hear the word “superhero,” it’s easy to think of marquee names like Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Wonder Woman and Captain America, among many others.

However, many like to argue that Batman simply isn’t a “superhero,” contrary to what his Wikipedia page. And for what it’s worth, Michael Keaton’s Batman placed third on Rolling Stone’s list of the “50 Greatest movie Superheroes.”

Merriam-Webster dictionary, however, defines “superhero” as “a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers.” By that definition, Batman wouldn’t qualify as a superhero, since he boasts high-tech gadgets and weapons instead of special powers.

Twilight star Robert Pattinson is set to star as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, slated for a 2021 release. The 33-year-old actor did an interview with Willie Geist of Today, and Pattinson explained why he doesn’t think Batman falls in the “superhero” category.”

“Batman’s not a superhero,” Pattinson said. “It’s weird, I always balk at it. I’m like, ‘It doesn’t count, you need to have like magical powers to be a superhero.'”

Geist simply pointed out that Batman has “a cape,” to which Pattinson replied “I give you that one.” Of course, simply having a cape isn’t enough to put Batman in the “superhero” definition by Merriam-Webster.

Throw in the Batman: Arkham video game franchise as well as all the many popular cartoons – including Batman: The Animated Series – and it’s safe to argue that the Dark Knight stands out as the most beloved comic book hero of them all.
