Matilda cast – Where are they now?

Matilda cast reunites after 17 years to perform classic scene

Matilda was released in 1996 and is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s famous book from 1988, which follows a young girl whose mean-spirited parents ignore her. But Matilda has special gifts, which only come to light when she starts school and is encouraged by a kind teacher, Miss Honey. With iconic characters from Miss Trunchbull to Bruce Bogtrotter, where is the film cast now?

Matilda starred a whole host of actors, with many making an early break into Hollywood.

However, the film’s narrator and Matilda’s father Mr Wormwood was played by Danny DeVito, who also directed the movie and is still a mega star today.

Needless to say, Danny DeVito has continued acting, recently starring in the new Jumanji reboot alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

But what about the other actors? Here is where they have ended up.

Mara Wilson – Matilda

Mara Wilson was famed as a child actress in the 1990s, acting in movies like Miracle on 34th Street, Mrs Doubtfire and many other brilliant family movies.

In 2000, after failing to get some big roles, Mara retired from acting and instead grew up to be a writer after graduating from New York University.

That being said, since 2012 she has appeared on podcasts and in documentaries as herself, and had a number of stage and voice roles, meaning there may be more of Mara to be seen on the screen.

Rhea Pearlman – Mrs Wormwood

Rhea Perlman acted opposite her then-husband in Matilda, with her being married to Danny DeVito until their separation in 2017.

She has, like Danny, continued to act and has been seen in an array of film and TV series.

However, her best-known role took place before Matilda, where she played Carla in long-running series Cheers.

Pam Ferris – Miss Trunchbull

Pam Ferris, a Welsh actress, played the iconic villain, and since then has also continued in her acting career, appearing as Aunt Marge in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Mrs Faulkner, one of Tolkien’s foster-parents, in Tolkien.

In more recent years, her most notable role was as Sister Evangelina in Call the Midwife, who she played from 2012 to 2016.

She has also appeared in Luther, Gavin and Stacey as Smithy’s mum Catherina “Cath” Smith, and two of the Nativity films.

Jimmy Karz – Bruce Bogtrotter

Jimmy Karz has not been in the spotlight in the same way as his co-stars but recently was a real hit when fans saw him all grown up.

The actor appeared in an episode of ER and a small part in The Wedding outside of his Matilda work, but otherwise has been doing other things since the movies.

However, fans were a big fan of the actor when they saw him in his adult years, looking very different from his childhood counterpart.

Kiami Davael – Lavender

Lavender was Matilda’s only friend at school and helped her to understand her powers alongside Miss Honey.

Kiami did continue acting for a short while after the movie, appearing in In the House, Moesha and The Steve Harvey Show, among others.

However, in 2008 she graduated from University of Kentucky with a degree in Psychology and has not acted for some time.

Embeth Davidtz – Miss Honey

Embeth Davidtz appeared as Miss Honey in one of her early roles, and has continued to act since.

Her more recent film work has seen her appear as Mary Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as well as the upcoming M Night Shyamalan film Old.

She has also had recurring TV roles in series like Ray Donavan, starring Liev Schreiber, The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston and hit show Mad Men.
