Jamie Lee Curtis Fires Back at Fox News for 'Nonsense' Claim She's a Gun Control Hypocrite

The actress clarifies that seeking gun control is not the same as being anti-gun and says Fox News never even reached out to her for her views.

Jamie Lee Curtis is very busy promoting her upcoming "Halloween" movie, but a story by Fox News has forced her to face accusations of gun control hypocrisy.

Curtis told USA Today that the story, which came out Wednesday afternoon, was nonsense, adding, "They were trying to make a point without ever asking me what I really think." Further, she suggested, "What I think might surprise them."

"Curtis’s on-screen actions stand in contrast to her real-life persona as an advocate for gun control — one of several Hollywood actors who use firearms in their films while preaching against them away from the set," the Fox News article states. "In light of several high-profile mass shootings, Curtis has voiced her support for gun reform legislation."

The writer seems to totally misunderstand what gun control and gun reform mean, stating that Curtis is "preaching against them." And so the actress decided to offer the network a quick education on one of its favorite topics.

"I am vocal about common-sense gun safety and gun laws," she told USA Today. "For instance, I fully support an assault weapon ban, I fully support a bump stock ban." But neither of those things are supporting a ban on guns.

She went on to add that she fully supports the Second Amendment and has "absolutely no problem with people owning firearms if they have been trained, licensed, a background check has been conducted, a pause button has been pushed to give time for that process to take place. And they have to renew their license just like we do with automobiles – which are weapons also."

On top of that, she urged the "Halloween" filmmakers to be cognizant of sensible gun ownership in developing her character for the upcoming film. " I was very clear with the filmmakers that she used the weapons (that) were intended for self-defense for her and her family."

But honestly, the whole argument is patently ridiculous. Acting is her job and it’s all fantasy anyway. Presumably Anthony Hopkins is against cannibalism, and yet he played Hannibal Lecter in several films. In fact, Twitter had a field day trolling Fox News for this stupid argument.

As for Curtis, she was a little more direct. "I’m an actress who’s in slasher movies," she said plainly. "I have to be responsible for my own personal choices in my own personal life. But I am an actor for hire. And honestly, if I had made my career as a pacifist actor, I would never have worked, ever."

So maybe Fox News should go back to telling Taylor Swift to shut up about politics while praising Kanye West for his support of the president.
