Mark Ruffalo has thrown Avengers fans into a frenzy after he ‘revealed’ the Infinity War sequel’s title on TV. Which naturally led the movie’s directors to ‘fire’ him from the franchise.
OK, OK… there’s probably something else going on here.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Hulk actor was asked if he had any information to share with the viewers about next year’s superhero blockbuster.
Ruffalo then proceeded to roll out the apparent name of the movie – which up until this point has been a closely-guarded secret… however, the talk show bleeped everything out.
Before his Jimmy Fallon interview was broadcast, Ruffalo contacted the host via Twitter about his upcoming “spoiler slip”, nudging Fallon to cut the details from the final edit.
This was spotted by Avengers 4‘s directing team, the Russo Brothers, who replied to Ruffalo’s message with a Lord Sugar-esque, “Mark, you’re fired.”
During his time on the talk show, Ruffalo went on to supposedly discuss details about one of his character’s biggest Avengers 4 scenes too. All bleeped out, of course.
So yes, if you haven’t guessed already, the whole thing was just a bit of fun, and basically we’re all still in the dark about a title. But with Marvel fans so desperate to learn anything about the movie, can you blame Ruffalo and co for playing around with it?
Ruffalo’s wrists have been slapped in the past following some MCU leaks, so this latest gag is a bit of a self-deprecating wink to his previous actions.
It looks like April Fools’ Day might’ve been transferred to later in the year, guys.
Avengers 4 will be released in the UK on April 26, 2019, and in the US on May 3, 2019.
