Why Meghan Markle, Beatrice and Eugenie sported gloves to the Queen’s State Funeral

Theroyal familyall dressed immaculately as they bidQueen Elizabeth IIgoodbye in a moving service on Monday 19 September.

In particular, the royal women all sported the same accessory when they stepped into Westminster Abbey for the State Funeral.

Meghan Marklealong with the late monarch’s granddaughtersPrincess EugenieandBeatriceall clad their arms in black gloves for the moving funeral.

It’s thought that there are a few reasons that the women all chose to wear gloves for the funeral including the change in temperature in the United Kingdom in recent days that has caused a chill.

However, the late Queen herself always sported the accessory when she was seen on official visits and it’s thought that the royal women wore theirs in tribute to Her Majesty.

The Princess of Wales wasn’t spotted with her gloves on, but instead she carried them in her hand as she entered the Abbey – as did theQueen Consort.

Meghan, 41, honoured the late Queenwith every element of her ensemble for the funeral.

The Duchess wore a black version of a midi cape dress by Stella McCartney that she previously wore to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall back in 2018, held to celebrate the Queen's 92nd birthday.

Meghan’s wide-brimmed translucent asymmetric hat was the black version of the same headpiece she wore to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

In June, the Duchess donned the hat in white during theservice of thanksgiving, which was held at St Paul's Cathedral.

However, it was her jewellery that held the most sentimental meaning as her chignon perfectly showed off her diamond and pearl drop studs which had been gifted to her by the late monarch during an engagement they did together in 2018.

The beautiful jewellery is thought to be a smaller version of the earrings that the late Queen tended to wear every day.

Meghan has also worn the pearls when she attended aceremony at Westminster Hall after the Queen's coffin had been transported from Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess revealed the touching story behind the beautiful jewellery during her landmark2021 interview with Oprah Winfreyalongside husbandPrince Harry.

She said: "The Queen, for example, has always been wonderful to me. I mean, we had our first joint engagements together. She asked me to join her. We had breakfast together that morning, and she'd given me a beautiful gift, and I just really loved being in her company."

Revealing the details of the present, she said: "She gave me some beautiful pearl earrings and a matching necklace.”
