Why Lacazette was left out of France squad despite scoring streak

France boss Didier Deschamps has left the door open to Alexandre Lacazette despite his latest international snub.

The Arsenal forward has bagged four goals in his last five matches for the Gunners, but failed to make the cut for the upcoming games against Iceland and Germany.

Lacazette watched from afar as France lifted the World Cup in Russia last summer, and Deschamps admits the 27-year-old will have to bide his time to earn a recall.

He said: "There is competition for each position.

"When the players who were at the World Cup are performing well… It is not a question of type of player, but of position.

"I need balance in the squad and he is a central attacker. He must continue."

Lacazette has forced his way into Unai Emery’s first XI after starting the season on the bench.

However, he has repaid his boss with a flurry of goals after being given the nod.
