This Morning has dismissed reports that popular presenters Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond, who currently host the Friday slot on the ITV show, are “bickering” behind the scenes.
The duo replaced previous presenters Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford on the Friday slot earlier this year, with it reported that the new presenting pair are not getting on.
A source told The Daily Mail: “They came from very different backgrounds. Dermot has been a big star for many years and has presented some big shows, while Alison has always wanted a less high-profile career and has far less experience.”
The source suggested that both of them may welcome a shake up on the show pairing them with a different co-host.
“They are impatient with one another, mainly because they do things so differently. It has led to on-set bickering and awkward tensions off-air.”
An ITV spokesperson denied the claims and told OK!: “Despite the challenges of starting their on screen partnership during a pandemic, Alison and Dermot have developed a firm friendship and their chemistry has proved a ratings success.”
The spokesperson continued: “Since the pandemic ended, the pair are now able to enjoy socialising together post the show and have enjoyed spending time with each other's families too."
Alison, 47, revealed she was “looking forward” to her new prime time gig with Dermot, also 47, last year when they were rumoured to present together full time.
She told OK! while on the red carpet for theDaily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards: "[Things with the show are going] amazing. I’ve been loving it. It’s tough coming in, but when you’ve got a lovely presenter like Dermot — I mean, I actually look forward to it now.”
When asked if she’d describe her and Dermot as being best friends now, Alison laughed and said that while she considers her co-host as her “mate”, her real best friend is her 17 year old son, Aidan.
This isn’t the first presenter feud the show has been plagued with, as last year there was a reported feud between hostPhillip Schofieldand Ruth Langsford which was reignited earlier this year by Ruth’s husband Eamonn.
In an interview published in February this year, Eamonn, 62, claimed Phillip, 59, was "renowned for snubbing people" – and his comments have reportedly upset his own wife.
A source told OK! that Ruth, 61, had been hoping to put the siuation "behind her".
The source said: "There's no way back for Eamonn at ITV so he feels like he didn’t have anything to lose by speaking out.
"But Ruth wasn't happy that he did. She just wants to put it behind her. She's still at ITV so it's awkward for her.
"She doesn't really want it all being brought up again.
"But Eamonn was annoyed by the situation. He didn't like how Phillip treated Ruth and felt like he wanted to speak out.”
