Strictly’s AJ and Kai are ‘supporting each other’ after confidence was knocked in dance off

AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington's salsa didn't quite go to plan last weekend, with the pair making a mistake towards the end of the routine.

The couple were given their lowest score yet at just 30 by the judges and ended up in the dance off against Dan Walker and his partner Nadiya.

The pair managed to keep their spot on the show after they were saved by judges, but according to OK!'s source, the scrape with the bottom two "knocked" AJ and Kai's confidence and caused a few tears.

OK!'s source explained: "Their confidence has been knocked. It's always difficult when you're in the dance off, there were lots of tears after but that's the game and there can only be one winner."

However, OK!'s source went on to explain that the couple are helping each other through their tricky week and are determined to come back fighting this weekend.

"They're helping each other through it and are trying to ignore all the press and negative comments," the source said.

"They just to want concentrate on the dance and take the criticism as a positive."

OK! has reached out to representatives of both parties for comment.

AJ and Kai have been praised for their close friendship while on the show, with AJ previously saying that "nothing will ever top" meeting her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington for the first time.

When asked about her Strictly highlight during an appearance on The One Show, AJ said: "Oh my gosh, all of it but I think nothing will ever top meeting Kai for the first time, us just getting on like a house on fire."

She then went on to add that the first time she danced on the Strictly dance floor, when she performed the Jive to Gold Dust there was "no feeling like it" and described it as "amazing".

The pair have some pretty famous mates behind them as the enter the semi-finals this weekend.

Vick Hope, who starred on Strictly in 2018, told OK! she'd be backing her pal AJ.

"I’m rooting for AJ [Odudu] because she’s my mate," Vick told us. "She’s amazing and I’m so glad the world is getting to see that.

"Also, she’s proving to be a very talented dancer, so I’m pretty sure she’ll go all the way."
