Sources have confirmed to Variety magazine that acclaimed director Ava DuVernay will produce and direct a Prince documentary for Netflix.
“Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” DuVernay tweeted after word about the project had gotten out earlier this week. “The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.”
Wildly renowned for her projects, Selma and Queen Sugar, DuVernay began work on the documentary several months ago, according to sources.
The production team will also have complete access to the late singer’s estate, including exclusive interviews, recordings and photos.
