It seems the battle of the breakfast shows is back on – was it ever off? – as Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 55, won’t let rival presenter Dan Walker, 43, enjoy a single victory. Issuing a playful warning as GMB continue to climb the ratings, the ITV host noted the gap between the programs is closing ever since Dan joined back in 2016.
The feud, which seems to have been going on for years, is rather entertaining for fans of either show, as the presenters rip into each other in a lively game of taunting.
Following the figure release, Dan wanted to thoroughly thank all those who tuned into the BBC over ITV.
He wrote: “Thanks for all your comments about #BBCBreakfast so far this week. We really appreciate you tuning in, particularly at the moment, and making us the number 1 breakfast show on TV – by some distance. Thanks for watching. @TVNaga01 & Charlie are back tomorrow from 6am.”
Alongside the post, he shared a picture of the whole BBC Breakfast team to mark their triumph, but Dan only had an hour to revel in the glory before Piers took a swipe he almost certainly anticipated.
Taunting Dan’s win, Piers joked: “Factcheck: a much smaller distance than when Dan joined… In fact, this week we closed the gap to the smallest distance ever.”
He added a friendly warning: “Please don’t get fired mate!”

Earlier in the week, Piers claimed the ITV program had its “highest ever ratings” without help from government ministers who continue to boycott the show.
It’s the latest spat of entertaining bickering between the two presenters, which many fans have become accustomed to.
One particular memorable exchange was when Piers branded Dan a “virtue-signalling, tediously opinion-devoid, toe-curlingly snivelling sycophant” in a row over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
And that’s one they’ve both never lived down.
Even when they’re not arguing over ratings, they’re still going at it.
While Dan is considered mild-mannered, Piers is quite the opposite and appears to love trying to get a rise out of his online nemesis.
On Saturday, Football Focus host Dan was forced to apologise after a guest on the sports show seemingly swore on live TV.
At the time of the blunder, Dan tweeted: “Really sorry about the swearing you might have heard on #FootballFocus today.
“I know a lot of kids watch the show and we are trying to work out what happened. Apologies.”
It wasn’t long before Piers took the opportunity to pile on the jibes, replying: “Stop digging that hole, Inspector Walker – we all heard what he said.”
Dan hit back with a joke: “What a surprise… I thought you’d be along.”
The BBC Breakfast star later confirmed that what was thought to have been a curse word was actually the doing of a bad Zoom line.

Dan addressed his followers: “UPDATE: We’ve investigated and @Josh_Denzel1 didn’t swear on #FootballFocus today.
“It was the combination of trying to say: Five marathons, In, For Calmzone (which is the charity) & a dodgy zoom line. Sorry if you had to have a surprising conversation with your children.”
Again Piers didn’t let it go and brutally responded: “Did Dominic Cummings lead the investigation?”
We’re sure that the animosity between the two presenters is just for show, and in an interview with Radio Times earlier this year Dan addressed their feud and hoped the same.
“He hates that we still get double the audience every morning, despite all the money they’ve spent on GMB,” he told the publication.
But that’s not to say one is better than the other – they each have their own unique styles.
Alas, the difference in viewing figures causes Piers to regularly wage a hostile war against his rival, who says he’s “just trying to get a reaction”.

Dan said he “fights back” because he’s the only one willing to challenge him: “I fight back because nobody else does,” he said.
“In the noise that circulates around him, I don’t care what he says about me, only when he pokes fun at Breakfast, or has a pop at Carol Kirkwood, or at our viewers.
“In all that noise, you can forget we are by some distance the number one breakfast show in the UK.”
But he confessed he should, on occasions “just let it lie” when Piers gets a little nasty.
“I’d like to think he doesn’t really mean those things. I really don’t think it’s genuine animosity. He talks about us an awful lot on GMB, whereas I don’t think we’ve ever mentioned him on Breakfast.”
Will they ever put an end to this war?
BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
