Paul O’Grady’s daughter ‘distraught’ over death as she breaks silence

Paul O’Grady’s grown-up daughter Sharon Mousley, 48, has shared her family’s “devastation” following the “unexpected” loss of the showbiz legend.

The news broke of Paul’s sudden death last week, and his heartbroken daughter, whom he shared with 76-year-old friend Diane Jansen, has now paid tribute to her beloved father.

Sharon told the MailOnline: “What can I say? We are all devastated, I am, my mum is, everyone is.

“We loved him and we will miss him.”

“We are all distraught,” Sharon admitted.

Paul welcomed his daughter in the 1970s when he was 18-years-old after a brief relationship with her mother Diane, who was his work colleague at the time.

The TV star went on to give Sharon away when she got married to husband Philip Mousley.

Paul previously shared his fond memories of his daughters wedding day.

He revealed: “It was a really great day. Sharon looked fabulous and Philip is a smashing fella.

“They fit together like a pan and a lid. She looked like a Disney princess.”

Paul then became a grandfather after Sharon and Philip welcomed their son Abel in 2006.

The couple went on to have a daughter named Halo in 2009.

Sharon also proudly accompanied her father to Buckingham Palace, alongside his husband Andre Portasio, when the Lily Savage star was awarded an MBE for services to entertainment in 2008.

Paul had shared a rare insight into his life as a new father in his autobiography, The Devil Rides Out.

The star recalled making everyone else in the maternity ward laugh at the time over his blunder.

He wrote: “Diane, sitting on the bed, her face flushing a bright red to equal mine, was just as embarrassed by the situation as I was. She quickly said, ‘Why don’t you have a look at her?'”

Paul admitted he had just gone to the wrong cot by mistake, before another mother had informed him: “You’re looking at the wrong baby, mate. That one’s mine, yours is over there.”

He added of the mishap: “This went down a treat with the mums and nurses, setting them off screaming with laughter and me scuttling over to take a peep at my own child, feeling more like Carabosse than a loving father.”

In a statement announcing Paul’s death on Wednesday, his husband said: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

“We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”
