Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in federal prison for tax evasion on Friday.
A statement issued to Cosmopolitan.com from Sorrentino’s rep states:
The 36-year-old reality star was accompanied to the Newark, New Jersey, courthouse by his fiancée, Lauren Pesce, and Jersey Shore cast members, Pauly “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jenni “J Woww” Farley, Deena Cortese, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Vinny Guadagnino, and Angelina Pivarnick, where he awaited a ruling on his case.
Aside from prison time, the Department of Justice required Sorrentino to complete 500 hours of community service, $123,913 in restitution that was already paid, and a fine of $10,000 that must be paid within 30 days, according to People.
In January, Sorrentino and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, pled guilty to a 2014 tax evasion charge relating to $9 million in income and falsifying records. On Friday, Marc was sentenced to 24 months in prison for assisting in the preparation of a false return.
“Lying to and defrauding the federal government is a very serious crime, regardless of a defendant’s celebrity status,” Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division said in a press release.

“The Sorrentino brothers chose to use Michael’s fame to benefit themselves at the expense of the American taxpayer, and with the help of our federal partners, they were held accountable,” Zuckerman said.
Sorrentino appeared on all six seasons of MTV’s Jersey Shore from 2009 to 2012. He returned for the series’ reboot, Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, for Seasons 1 and 2, which is currently airing. The show has documented his proposal and wedding plans with Pesce.
