The Masked Dancer presenter Jonathan Ross shared his thoughts on “cancel culture” in a recent interview. The broadcaster appeared on Loose Women as he shared his worries over the phenomenon becoming “dangerous”.
Jonathan opened up about younger generations yesterday in a televised interview.
He said: “When young people are saying the way things were aren’t the way things should be, we owe it to ourselves to listen.
“But it’s getting to the stage where people are paying too much lip service.”
The presenter then continued: “When you see people being stopped from speaking at universities or this new thing called ‘safetyism’ – I don’t feel safe working in this environment because people have different opinions to me – I think that’s wrong.
“Where people get cancelled or shut down just because they hold different opinions, that’s a dangerous area and I’m not comfortable with that.”
During the chat, Jonathan also shared how he was an introvert at heart, despite his outgoing personality.
He added to the panellists: “I used to struggle in company.
“I’d start feeling antsy and want to be elsewhere.
“I like people but I like it in a limited way and a controlled way.”
Jonathan was chatting as he stars in the new ITV talent show The Masked Dancer.
Following a similar format to The Masked Singer, the series sees the judges try and guess who are the celebrities behind the masks.
Jonathan is joined by Oti Mabuse, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan on the panel.
So far, two acts have been unmasked so far on the show.
Louise Redknapp was the first to leave as she was revealed to be behind the Flamingo costume.
Burlesque star Dita Von Teese was then unveiled as the Beetroot.
Jonathan has been making some outlandish guesses so far on the show.
This included a slight dig at Meghan Markle as he suggested she might be behind the Scarecrow costume.
On the ITV show, he said: “Who drove away from her wedding in a vintage 60s sports car?
“Meghan Markle! She knows this is a favourite British show.
“How else would she get back in the country’s favour?”
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
