Jedward join Black Lives Matter protest and people are pleasantly surprised

Eleven years ago, Jedward shot to fame on The X Factor, where they drove Simon Cowell and most of the UK mad with their incessant energy and American accents.

Fast forward to 2020, and the twins are the ultimate comrades.

Life comes at you real fast.

Social media has been pleasantly surprised after John and Edward Grimes were pictured chanting on moving cars at a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles.

While many celebrities have been criticised for staying quiet or making tokenistic gestures on social media, the 28-year-old twins have been vocal in their support for Black Lives Matter following the death of George Floyd last week.

Jedward first shared videos of themselves cheer on the protestors on Hollywood Boulevard, before getting in on the action.

John, wearing a face mask, knelt on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of a number of armed forces, holding up a sign reading ‘Black Lives Matter’.

The twins then stood on the boots and bonnets of moving cars holding their signs, and chanted ‘no justice, no peace’, before John held hands with other protestors at the top of the match to separate police from the crowd.

Edward also shared a selfie with his brother, with the caption: ‘STOP RACISM #BlackLivesMatter #GeorgeFloyd.’

While Planet Jedward fans were obviously super proud of the singers, others were more baffled by Jedward becoming two of the leading famous faces at the protest.

Jedward became close friends with the American Pie actress when they met in the Celebrity Big Brother house, and Tara, 44, explained that the pair, originally from Dublin, have been isolating with her and her boyfriend during the pandemic.

Tara told the We Hear podcast: ‘We’ve all been locked in our houses for months… it’s not easy. I have a small apartment, it’s two rooms so it’s not easy.
‘You’re always in each others faces, I’m doing so much business for my films and [Tara’s boyfriend] is doing business as well, he has mortgages.

‘The other guys I’m also quarantining with are my two best friends that I’ve grown up with… do you know who Jedward is?’

Jedward could then be heard in the background saying that it was ‘like a season of Big Brother except for the coronavirus pandemic’ and that they had cleaned her windows, so at least they’re earning their keep.

Reid continued: ‘Right now to have them in my life here… they truly have made this experience so much better than it would it would have been for me…

‘I got my best friends back, and we’re doing the best we can.’
