James Corden has jumped to the defence of his friend Prince Harry, saying his decision to leave the UK to move stateside with wife Meghan Markle was "not easy".

The 43 year old uprooted to the US himself back in 2015 to begin hosting chat show The Late Late Show.

Duke and Duchess of Sussex Harry and Meghan, aged 36 and 39 respectively, relocated to California at the start of 2020 after a brief stint in Canada.

Harry gave his first interview since stepping down as a senior member of the Royal family to James in February, with the Gavin & Stacey star now speaking out on the couple's decision.

Speaking to US radio show Howard Stern about Harry's move, James admitted: "I cannot imagine any of it is easy.

"But I do not think any person in such a position in his life is easy. I have never really spoken about it to him in depth."

However, he did admit that he feels Harry is "going through a tough time" after stepping away from his royal duties.

But he did insist that the "real" Harry is the happy character who was seen atop the open-top bus in their Late Late Show chat earlier this year.

James continued: "The Harry you saw on the clip we did on the open-top bus, that to me is a great reflection of the person I know."

Just days after his interview with James, Harry and Meghan sat down for an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, with it now being reported the Duke agreed to the chat just 24 hours after losing his military titles.

A source told The Sun: "There was a bust-up just before Oprah but it wasn't to do with Archie's title.

"That had been known and discussed for quite a while.

"Harry and Meghan were very cross before Oprah because the final Megxit separation had just been signed off which included Harry not keeping military roles.

"That was what made him so angry. He's very emotional and his military roles were very important to him given that he served."

Harry, who served in the Army for ten years and undertook two tours of Afghanistan, received promotions during his time in the services, including becoming a Major in the British Army, Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy and Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force.

Following Harry and Meghan's decision to step down from their roles as senior Royals, three key roles were removed by The Queen.
