Rudy Giuliani is riding the red wave to riches in Brazil.
The former mayor’s firm, Giuliani Security & Safety, was awarded a $1.6 million contract by the governor of the state of Amazonas to crack down on rampant crime.
Brazil just handed far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro a victory in the first round of the country’s presidential election (he faces a runoff election on Oct. 28), but some left-wingers are making an issue of Giuliani’s contract.
“Ideally, when you have a serious illness, you call in a specialist, right? That’s what we did,” said Amazonas Gov. Amazonino Mendes.
The murder rate in Manaus, the state’s capital, is much higher than New York’s was in 1990 at its peak.
“We sought out the best crime-fighting consultancy in the world. It’s called Rudolph Giuliani,” Mendes said.
Giuliani was said to be traveling — maybe in Brazil, his office didn’t say — and couldn’t be reached for comment.
