Everton quartet hand Silva major boost by playing in training match

Everton could be boosted by four returning players after the international break.

James McCarthy moved a step closer to making his long-awaited return when coming through a behind closed doors training match.

And he was joined by deadline day signings Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes, who haven’t played since arriving from Barcelona.

McCarthy, who suffered a double leg break playing for the Toffees in January, came through a 60-minute match at Finch Farm unscathed.

If he gets through training in the next week without any issues he could make the bench for the home fixture against Crystal Palace on October 20.

Everton boss Marco Silva could be further boosted by the returning Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and youngster Beni Baningime, who all came through the same session with no ill effects.

Colombia centre-back Mina resumed training with his teammates in mid-September after a month of rehabilitation following his £27million summer move.

After a step backwards after bruising his foot in a minor training-ground collision he is now in full training again and came through the hour-long clash with no problems.

Portugal international Gomes is also closing in on a first Toffees appearance following his deadline day loan deal.

The 25-year-old central midfield player has recovered fully from a hamstring injury which has frustrated his efforts since arriving from La Liga.

Academy graduate Baningime, who signed a new four-year deal with Everton in May, has been out of action after suffering an ankle injury in pre-season.
