Loose Women panellist Gloria Hunniford, 80, has divulged that her friends Eamonn Holmes, 61, and Ruth Langsford, 60, are “disappointed” to have been dropped from their regular This Morning presenting slot on Fridays. The couple are set to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary from next month in a shake-up on the ITV programme.

After speaking to Eamonn since the news broke, Gloria revealed that he and Ruth are finding the move “difficult to understand”.

The presenter said: “That one was very hard to understand – I don’t fully understand the reasons behind it.”

“I’ve talked to Eamonn since, and he’s clearly disappointed.

“I think they find it very difficult to understand why the change.”

In spite of her concerns for her pals, Gloria praised ITV for “trying to cater for every age group” by introducing new presenters.

She added to The Mirror: “There are a lot of lovely new young presenters coming in, which is good.

“They’re trying to cater for every age group.”

Gloria went on to insist retirement is “not in her own vocabulary” while discussing her own future in TV.

The star insisted: “It may retire me, but I have no intention of retiring it.”

It comes after Eamonn and Ruth addressed the news, that there would be a “changing of the guard” on This Morning, in social media posts earlier this week.

“It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January,” Ruth informed her fans.

“We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a ball you two!

“It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term,” she signed off.

Eamonn also re-shared the post on his own Instagram account.

“We are pleased to announce that Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary are set to join the This Morning family as regular hosts.

“The dynamic duo will share hosting duties with Phillip Schofield, Holly Willoughby, Eamonn Holmes OBE and Ruth Langsford from January 2021,” a statement from ITV read.

Today, Ruth wished her husband Eamonn a happy birthday following the replacement news.

“Happy Birthday to my wonderful, handsome, kind, generous, clever, big hearted and incredibly funny husband @eamonnholmes Love you,” Ruth wrote on Instagram.

The couple could be seen in a warm embrace in the picture, which she shared with her 975,000 followers.

Taking to the comments section of the post, Eamonn thanked his wife of ten years for her kind words.

“Well that’s a very nice thing to say… albeit true. Here’s to a Birthday vaccine for all.”
