Dawn French took to social media this week to slam a fake diet advert for using her pictures. She dubbed it “b*****ks” and told her 517,400 followers: “Keto lies…”

The 63-year-old TV star shared a screenshot of the advert online while telling fans what she thought of it.

The post in question carried a quote which was supposedly from the comedian.

It read: “All I can say is that it works! I dropped a total of 6.4 stones in the course of 5 months! Beret the catch, with no exercise!

“I wanted to see if it would do as they claimed it would if I did no exercise and to my surprise it did.”

Many took to the comments section of her post to share their thoughts on the matter.

“Well called out. So many people wasting money on these diets,” one Twitter user wrote.

“I wish people wouldn’t make stuff up! How you lost the weight is nobody’s business but yours @Dawn_French.

“Re Keto though. Been on it for year+, started to see if it helped my memory, fatigue and feeling soo old. It did, full of life now! Horses for courses. Love you lady,”(sic) a second added.

“I’m not entirely sure that’s the point – it might work – it might be amazing- but @Dawn_French doesn’t endorse it,” another pointed out.

“Regardless of whether a keto diet works, or not, it is wrong for them to use your image and attribute words to you to sell their product if you didn’t agree to it.

“Speak to your lawyer,” a fourth advised.

Dawn has had to shut down similar adverts in the past.

She told The Sun that it infuriates her to see her images used to promote diet pills to people who might be suffering with low self-esteem already.

“I think this might be the fifth time I’ve had to shut down these s****y scoundrels — using my name illegally to sell their cr***y pills.

“It infuriates me. It’s a total rip-off,” she previously told the publication.

Over a number of years, Dawn has shed over seven stone in weight.

She spoke about her weight loss journey during her 30 Million Minutes tour.

The Vicar of Dibley star said she set out to lose weight on medical advice ahead of an operation.

“When I was due to have my hysterectomy the doctor told me that if I could lose some weight before the op, they would be able to do it via keyhole, and I would recover in three weeks or so. Otherwise it would be big open surgery, and three months to recover,” she explained.

“I set about dropping a few stone. No magic wand, just tiny, joyless low-cal eating and lots more walking for weeks and weeks.

“It was grim. I lost seven-and-a-half stone. I could have the keyhole surgery,” she added.
