'Daredevil' Season 3 Could Return The Show To Its Former Glory

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Matt Murdock! Following the events of The Defenders, Matt has been off the grid, and the beginning of Season 3 marks his arrival back to society (and his friends’ lives). Unfortunately, his arrival coincides with Wilson Fisk’s release from prison. Viewers will recall Fisk was Season 1’s Big Bad. He promises he’s a changed man, but from the looks of the trailer, Fisk is just as bad — if not worse — than he was in the series’ opening act. There’s another villain terrorizing New York as well, but we’ll get to that later.

In the trailer below, you’ll notice not one but two Daredevils roaming the city: One is causing mayhem and the other is being framed for it.

What’s next for Matt?

Matt returns to the city a “broken man,” and he’s on a mission to find his place in the world. He’s ready to channel his inner darkness, but he’s not as optimistic as before, and he’s struggling with how the city perceives Daredevil — especially as someone runs around with his costume on damaging the name of his vigilante alter-ego even further.

At New York Comic Con, actor Charlie Cox (who plays Matt Murdock) said, “At the beginning of Season 3, Matt is at an all-time low. On that journey, he’s aided by the wonderful Sister Maggie, played by the wonderful Joanne Whalley. I got to explore a new side to Matt, a new vulnerability we haven’t seen before.”

As previously promised, Matt doesn’t believe in “justice” or in the system anymore. He believes “darkness only responds to darkness,” which will drive him to commit more violence than ever before. Also, Matt is deaf in one ear from the building collapse at the end of The Defenders, which leaves him without his heightened senses (last we heard, at least), so how will he continue to fight crime?

Fisk is back, but there’s a new villain at large

Fisk, Matt’s nemesis from Season 1, is going to cause a lot of trouble for Matt during this new season, but what extremes will he go to?

Not much has changed since Season 1. This time around, he’ll be more careful but he’ll surely want to face the person who took him down. Matt is definitely in danger.

Based on the trailer, it seems Fisk is using someone to divert attention with their villainous acts so he can stay under the radar. Unfortunately for Matt, Daredevil’s name is being dragged through the mud by a new “Daredevil” who Fisk takes under his wing.

Wilson Bethel is playing Bullseye

The new Daredevil, or Bullseye as he’s known in the comics, will play a major role in the season. Bethel, who you may recognize as Wade from The CW’s Hart of Dixie, portrays FBI agent Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter.

Like Matt, Dex has lost faith in the system, but he’s ready to travel a darker path than Matt ever has. To do so, he’s destroying Daredevil’s reputation.

At NYCC, Bethel commented on his character, stating “This is the beginning of that kind of weird relationship that develops throughout the season. Unfortunately for Dex, he also gets taken under Fisk’s wing.”

Find about more about his character in the teaser trailer below.

Foggy and Karen will have some space from Matt

All this time, Foggy and Karen have had no clue where Matt was. They thought he could have been dead after the Defenders events. As happy as they’re going to be to see him alive, it’s going to be a short-lived reunion.

Matt is going to separate himself from everyone as he embraces his inner darkness, and we already know Karen and Foggy don’t support that — at least not as much as he needs them to.

It appears the writers have learned from the disaster that was Season 2 and are returning to the darkness of Season 1 that made the show so popular.

Matt deserves to be happy, but he has a lot to work through from his past. He has to figure out a better way to be Daredevil because what he’s done hasn’t worked.

Daredevil Season 3 drops October 19 on Netflix and marks the fourth Marvel installment of the year, following Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

What twists will Daredevil introduce to shake up the Marvel universe before the year is up? We’re excited to see after that incredible trailer.
