Cheryl, 67, found fame as one of the founding members of the 1980s pop group Bucks Fizz and has since gone on to carve a career in television. Most recently, she attempted to land a stint in one of TV’s biggest soaps.

The star, who has recently spoken publicly about her financial hardship over the last year, admitted that she was turned down for an appearance on EastEnders, which she blames herself for.

Cheryl admitted that she was nervous ahead of the audition and hadn’t rehearsed the scene well enough, resulting in her forgetting her lines.

Now, the singer from Bethnal Green, east London, is begging bosses at the corporation to reconsider their decision.

Remaining optimistic, Cheryl hopes that “something better is around the corner” in order to revive her career.

She said: “I auditioned for EastEnders recently but I didn’t get the part, I was a bit rubbish really.

“I was a bit nervous and didn’t learn my lines properly.”

The mum-of-two went on to say: “I don’t watch any soaps – I’m not a big TV watcher at all, I think it was the part of the woman who runs the theatre school, which is something that I’ve done in the past.”

Cheryl, who now sells video messages to her fans for £30 a go, told the Daily Star: “It was in the midst of lockdown, my daughter was reading the other part.

“To be perfectly honest I didn’t learn my lines properly, I didn’t deserve the part.

“However, I’d like them to give me a second chance.”

While attempting to make money, Cheryl has started selling furniture, clothes, and paintings, as well as giving away a bed that she described as “slightly stained”.

Listing the circular bed on Facebook, Cheryl captioned the listing: “Circular bed, 7ft round (213 cms) including mattress.

“Dismantles into 4 sections, slightly stained but nothing nasty – just tea and coffee where my daughter used to fall asleep with her tippy cup.

“Really comfy. No need for circular bed linen – king size works just as well.”

Speaking of the past year, during which work ceased up for her, Cheryl said: “It is silly really, but I’ve never been very good with money, and I do still have quite a big mortgage.

“I’ve been doing these video messages and they’ve been very good, even though they’re cheap.

“They’re only £30, and out of that I get £22.50, but they do build-up, and also with the old Bucks Fizz discography and royalty payments – I’ve recently had two payments come in, so it’s the little things that help me along.”

Cheryl, who resides in a home in Kent worth more than £1 million, previously admitted that she has never been a saver.

She has also worked as an office administrator as well as answering phones and cold-calling.

After appearing on Dancing on Ice in 2018, Cheryl explained she no longer qualifies for the Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme, as it takes into consideration tax returns from previous years.
