Betty White Was Hurt By a Viewer Who Listed Everything They Couldn't Stand About Her

Betty White is loved by many fans around the world. It’s hard to imagine that anyone would have a bad thing to say about The Golden Girls actor. However, White reveals she once received a nasty letter from a viewer who listed the things they hated about her. Here’s what she said about the letter she couldn’t forget.

Betty White receives countless fan letters

White says she began receiving a lot of fan mail after The Golden Girls started airing. A fan wrote regularly to tell her the show ratings in England, and another fan from Australia who would send animal pictures. She says she also receives one-time letters from fans. Some fans even write to ask the actor for money. White says she doesn’t answer letters with financial requests. Other fan letters simply ask for autographed photos.

A viewer listed everything they couldn’t stand about Betty White

White is so loved that she’s often referred to as a “national treasure” by her devoted fans. Unfortunately, not everyone loves her. White recalled the time a viewer sent a letter listing all the things they disliked about her and her acting. She receives a lot of positive mail, but this letter hurt White’s feelings, and she never forgot the nasty note. She says she saw the note because she and her secretary agreed she would read every negative letter.

White says the letter she remembers the most listed “each and every thing” the viewer “couldn’t stand” about her. The viewer also listed all of White’s performances they hated. White was deeply hurt by the criticism. “It cut right to the bone,” she wrote.  She says whenever she starts to “get carried away” with herself, she thinks about that negative letter.

Betty White’s 100th birthday will be here soon

White will turn 100 years old on January 17, 2022. Fans took to social media, saying the actor must be protected. One wrote a hilarious post on Twitter, saying White should be wrapped in bubble wrap and given national security protection.

During an interview with People magazine, White says her sense of humor keeps her young. She likes to look on the bright side. White also likes to stay busy. “Just looking at the positive side and not dwelling on the downside,” says White. “Takes up too much energy being negative. Also having a good agent who keeps me busy all the time.” She also says she happens to “be blessed with good health.”

White says she is thankful for each birthday. In her book, If You Ask Me, she says getting older is something to be happy about if you’re in good health. According to White, if you’re fortunate enough to have good health, you shouldn’t complain about getting older. She says aging isn’t a surprise, so we should make the most of this time in our lives. Says White, “So you may not be as fast on your feet, and the image in your mirror may be a little disappointing, but if you are still functioning and not in pain, gratitude should be the name of the game.”
