When it comes to embracing controversial fashion trends, Bella Hadid is no stranger. And now, in her latest street style outfit, she’s rebranding the reputation of the long-abhorred socks-and-sandals trend.
Hadid was photographed in New York City wearing a matching black-and-white geometric top over a white collared blouse with puffy sleeves and a knee-length skirt. The gap between the matching set also subtly revealed exposed thong straps, adding a sultry touch to a look that could otherwise be interpreted as conservative—by Hadid’s standards, anyway.
For accessories, the Kin Euphorics partner opted for pearl chokers from Vivienne Westwood, black oval shades, and a checkered handbag.
Finally, to cap off the look, she put an edgy spin on her footwear, opting for white ankle socks worn with black platform heeled sandals, the straps of which featured multiple buckles. She even coordinated her pearl necklaces with a matching pearl anklet.
This isn’t the first time that Hadid has directed her styling chops toward usually unfavorable clothing preferences. In February, the model made an appearance during Milan Fashion Week while wearing Bermuda shorts, a garment long associated with camp counselors or dads on vacation. Instead, her speckled gray iteration proved to be a fashionable counterweight to her checkered cream-and-black poncho and black calf-high boots.
Hadid previously told WSJ. Magazine that she hasn’t worked with a full-time stylist in years, meaning she’s usually the brain behind her innovative street style ensembles.
“I haven’t had a stylist in a long time, maybe two years now,” she said. “In the last year, it was really important for me to learn that even if people talk about my style or if they like it or if they don’t, it doesn’t matter, because it’s my style.”
