ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus attends opening night of his Mamma Mia! The Party

ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus slips into his 1977 jumpsuit for the first time in 42 YEARS as he joins Benny Andersson at Mamma Mia! The Party… but fans will have to fork out at least £151 to see the show

His spectacular event has already had a four-year successful run in Stockholm, Sweden.

And ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus led the star-studded arrivals at the launch of his Mamma Mia! The Party at Building Six, The O2, in London, on Thursday night.

The musician, 74, looked dapper for the big event in a grey three-piece suit with a chequered waistcoat and black patterned unbuttoned shirt, complete with black ankle boots and tortoise shell glasses.

While Bjorn went on to slip into his iconic white ABBA plunging jumpsuit with gold detailing, which is believed to be the first time he has worn it in 42 years, after he was last seen wearing it in Australia 1977. 

He was joined by his ABBA bandmate Benny Andersson at the star-studded opening night and he opted for a stylish all-black ensemble.

Mamma Mia! The Party, created by Bjorn, lets you celebrate everything to do with the movie and ABBA with a special party held in a room themed as a taverna on the Greek island of Skopelos… yet the cheapest ticket will set you back £151. 

After a four-year successful run in Stockholm, Sweden, it has now launched in London with a four hour extravaganza consisting of a show – adapted by from the musical’s script by Sandi Toksvig, a four-course Mediterranean sharing meal and an ABBA disco.

With Building Six at The O2 transformed into a 500-seater Nikos Taverna complete with bougainvillea, a fountain and olive trees, eventgoers can be a Dancing Queen and have the time of their lives. 

The party will run until February 16, 2020, with tickets starting at £151 and going up to £218.     

Also attending the party was The Great British Bake Off presenter Sandi Toksvig, who adapted the show’s script for the UK extravaganza.

Sandi, 61, looked stylish for the event in a black trouser suit with a matching coloured top, platform trainers and a gold pendant necklace.  

The QI host was joined by her GBBO co-presenter Noel Fielding and his partner Lliana Bird who both made bold fashion statements on the red carpet. 

Noel, 46, looked fabulous in a pair of purple skinny trousers with a red and yellow patterned faux-fur coat and black heeled ankles boots.

The Mighty Boosh star’s partner Lliana, 38, opted for blue dungarees with a guinea pig printed pattern, a rainbow cloud clutch bag and turquoise velvet heeled boots.

Noel and Lliana, who welcomed their first child together, a daughter called Dali, in April 2018, opted for matching eye make-up as they both sported turquoise winged eyeliner for the star-studded bash.    

Also attending the event was Vanessa Feltz who showed off her three-and-a-half stone weight loss in a strapless pink chiffon dress with a sequinned shawl draped around her shoulders. 

Opting for equally glamorous accessories, Vanessa teamed her ensemble with a pair of pink wedges, a matching coloured watch and a gold clutch bag.

The EastEnders star, 54, was also joined by her fellow panellist Gloria Hunniford, 79, who attended the bash with her husband Stephen Way.

Pretty in pink: British swimmer Sharron Davies looked pretty in pink as she made a glamorous arrival after breaking her hip from a ‘spectacular’ bicycle crash in August 

ABBA rose to fame in 1972 and was made up of the bandmembers’ first letters of their names Agnetha Fältskog, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

The group split in 1982 following the breakdown of Agnetha and Bjorn’s marriage in 1980 with Benny and Anni-Frid’s union coming to an end just shortly after in 1981.

Bjorn and Benny have continued to write music with Bjorn believed to be worth £240 million and Benny £173 million.   

The two grouped together to write hit musical, Mamma Mia!, which tells the story of bride-to-be Sophie, who invites her mother Donna’s three exes to her wedding in the hope of discovering which of the men are her father.

The musical was adapted into a film in 2008, which starred Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Julie Walters.

The cast (minus Meryl) returned for the sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018, this time joined by actress Lily James and music legend Cher.

Meanwhile, the London stage show has been watched by more than nine million people throughout over 8,000 performances.
