90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way‘s Brittany Banks is one of the most controversial stars in the entire franchise. Viewers have watched her argue for what feels like forever with fiancé Yazan Abo Horira over their competing cultures. The Jordanian native wants his bride to convert to Islam, much to Banks’ consternation, while her flouting of his home country’s strict rules about women’s dress hasn’t won her many fans on either side of the divide. Adding fuel to the fire, Banks is still married to her ex, unbeknownst to her soon-to-be husband.
On a recent episode of the hit show, Banks made plans to return home to Chicago to visit her niece and finalize her divorce (again, without her fiancé’s knowledge). As Cheat Sheet notes, as the season began, Bank confessed to producers that she’d gotten married five years previous and was having trouble convincing her ex to sign the papers to end things officially. “Right now he’s not playing nice at all. He’s giving me a really hard time,” she revealed. Now, it seems proceedings have stalled further.
Brittany Banks is blaming the slow court system
According to ScreenRant, Banks is blaming the delay on the Chicago court system, although fans aren’t buying it. The reality star explained that she’d received a last-minute email about her divorce, advising there would be a hearing regarding the status, hence why she had to leg it home ASAP. However, the 90 Day Fiancé star was later captured leaving the courthouse with a stack of papers in hand. Banks explained there was no hearing because the requisite paperwork hadn’t been filed, leading to confusion over why she’d even shown up in the first place — and without a lawyer, no less.
As Cheat Sheet advises, “Banks sought legal assistance before heading to Jordan,” but she was warned the divorce could take a year. Now, it looks like it’s going to drag on indefinitely, which makes the possibility of her fiancé finding out increasingly more likely. Abo Horira’s family are already unhappy about his upcoming union with Banks, not trusting her intentions and understandably taking issue with her refusal to convert to Islam, and they’re sure to hit the roof upon discovering she’s still married to somebody else.
