Winds of Winter: ‘Pleased’ George RR Martin hints at progress on next Game of Thrones book

The author is the mastermind behind the whole Game of Thrones phenomenon, which started with the A Song Of Ice And Fire books. So far only five of the planned seven books have seen the light of day – the most recent of which came out in 2011. It’s no secret that he has been making an effort to prioritise the next part, The Winds of Winter; and now it seems he’s coming good on his word.

George RR Martin took to his popular Not A Blog website to acknowledge friend and collaborator Raya Golden, who has adapted his unproduced pilot Starport into a graphic novel.

Golden, it seems, has been hard at work promoting the new release; with Martin strongly hinting that his own writing commitments are what stopped him from joining her.

He wrote: “STARPORT is now available from your favourite bookstore or on-line bookseller.

“It’s one of my favourites of my unproduced pilots, and Raya did an amazing job with the adaptation. If you like SF, give it a try.

“Oh, and where was I, you ask? Why wasn’t I with her?

“Well, I’ve been busy at home.”

Martin followed the final line with a GIF of Kermit the Frog enthusiastically writing on a typewriter, and set his “Current Mood” at the bottom of the post to “Pleased”.

Game of Thrones, the TV show initially based on the books, is returning for its final season next month.

Martin has recently expressed his regret that the series was forced to overtake the source material.

“It’s been an incredible ride,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And almost all of it has been great.

“Obviously, I wished I finished these books sooner so the show hadn’t gotten ahead of me. I never anticipated that.”

Game of Thrones returns on April 14.
