GREAT DIXTER by Fergus Garrett (Pimpernel Press £12.99)

Christopher Lloyd, one of the gardening greats, devoted his life to Great Dixter, where he was born in 1921 and died in 2006.

He maintained the historic character of the East Sussex grounds, cultivated by his parents, but wasn’t afraid to experiment with new ideas.

His legacy is continued by head gardener Fergus Garrett, pictured here tending to the Long Border with Lloyd in the 1990s. This book bursts with life and combines Garrett’s commentary with brilliant photography to tell the story of a garden that beautifully fuses the old and the new.
