Did 'Riverdale' Really Just Kill [SPOILER]?! You Need to Read This Season 4 Theory.

Okay. Wow. I know, we need to talk about the season three finale of Riverdale, “Survive the Night.” (Spoilers ahead, obviously.) The episode follows Betty, Jughead, Archie, and Veronica as they attempt to survive one final viscous game of Gryphons & Gargoyles. Meanwhile, Cheryl escapes The Farm with the help of a not-so-brainwashed Alice. But as wild as all this was, the shocking reveals and twists were even more mind-boggling. Here’s everything we learned:

That sounds like enough for one hell of a finale, but just when we think the episode is over, the core four start discussing their senior year and how they want it to be sunshine and rainbows. Not sure how that was going to work with almost all of their parents in jail or on the lam and Bughead dealing with their mutual blood relative… It definitely seemed like plenty to dive into for some season four shenanigans, right? WRONG, at least according to the Riverdale writers.

Just when the gang is gathered at Pop’s discussing their hopes for a stress free future (they’ve really got to start inviting Cheryl. She’s earned it), we flash forward to Veronica, Betty, and Archie standing over a bonfire half-naked and covered in blood. Archie holds Jughead’s beanie as Betty instructs the group to burn all their clothes, including said crown. Jug is no where to be seen.

They definitely want us to think Jughead is dead, but is he? Probably not, and I have a pretty good idea where this is going. Every season of Riverdale has a theme, and my guess is we are looking at an ode to I Know What You Did Last Summer for the next one. If you haven’t seen the movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr., it’s a perfect horror film about a group of four ex-friends who reunite when they’re threatened by a raving serial killer that, you guessed it, knows what they did last summer. Consider this your homework for Riverdale hiatus.

Remember what Betty said in the finale?

Sounds just like the pact made by the teens in IKWYDLS… Now, if I’m right, season four will either wrap up all the current drama before diving into this new mystery, or jump between pre and post bon-fire, How to Get Away With Murder style. More likely than not, Jughead is getting rid of the body we don’t see in this flash forward, accidentally leaving his sacred cap behind. What would be really cool, though, is if the remaining three believe they killed Jughead and he takes on the role of the blackmailer. Too wild?
